Architecture

Several architects have been involved in designing Navet, which forms a new landmark in central Umeå.

A construction the size of Navet is divided into two phases. The first phase sees the design of the swimming centre as a whole. This has been done by Erséus Architects. They have also designed Eriksdalsbadet in Stockholm and Angered Arena in Gothenburg.

In the second phase, interior design and colour schemes are set. This work has been carried out by LINK Architecture in Umeå.

Navet has been designed not to compromise the integrity of the adjacent building – the former gymnasium of Mimerskolan (Mimer School). The
gymnasium was built in 1892 and is of significant historical and cultural value.

A swimming centre for everyone

Accessibility

We want Navet to be a place for everyone. Accessibility has therefore been considered key in the design process of the swimming centre.
